I recently attended a professional learning development course on Word Study for students K-5. Kindergarten sets a student's attitude and perception of school. It is important for me to give my students the best opportunities to enjoy learning, so that they will adopt a love for learning. My dream for students is to develop a love and passion for reading and writing through hands-on, real-life experiences. My goal for my classroom is to develop a center mainly focused on word study and to make letters and words come to life for my students. The lowercase alphabet magnetic tiles will be used for my students of all levels. Whether they are working on letter identification, letter sounds, CVC (consonant vowel constant words), sight words, spelling, vocabulary, these manipulatives can help bring letters and words to life for my students! Not only can this be a center, but it can be incorporated into guided reading groups and intervention periods for all levels of learners. The magnetic whiteboards will offer opportunities for my students to build words, write words, and explore words through critical and creative thinking and problem solving.
