My students need a place that feels like the heart and soul of our classroom, where we can meet and interact in engaging activities. A classroom oval-shaped rug would become this meeting place for my students where we can gather every morning and afternoon. Preschoolers are still learning about personal space and boundaries, so they need this visual reminder to stay in their defined space. This rug will provide enough space that my preschoolers can get their wiggles out but also learn about calm bodies and focused minds. For my students with special needs, creating a safe space for learning and interacting with peers is vital to success. This rug with the animal alphabet will help us practice our letters, letter sounds, colors, and animals. It will also help our students while playing interactive social games, such as hot potato, so they may feel comfortable learning to interact with their peers. We can also practice following directions and listening by telling them which animal/letter to sit on. I have often observed that my students are more engaged and feel more connected to me when we are sitting in a circle on the floor as opposed to chairs. Your generous contributions will help these students feel accepted and ready to learn!
