The purpose of this project is to provide a special environment for students who are sensory seeking or avoiding. The materials will support the following sensory systems auditory, visual, tactile, vestibular, and proprioceptive. My students will be taught how to use the materials by following a schedule and supporting their communication modality. It is my intention that by having a sensory cave within my classroom students will be able to increase their communication and social skills by interacting with each other while getting their sensory needs met. My students do not currently have access to a sensory room and it is a need that will allow them to be successful throughout their school day. The materials I have requested such as the liquid floor tiles will help students with visual and tactile sensory needs. The playskool shopping cart will help my students who need to do heavy work. The time timer will be used to help manage a student's time in the sensory cave. The sit and spin will help students with vestibular needs.
