Students take ownership of their learning through choice within academic topics and tasks. However, the learners in my classroom would appreciate the ownership to extend beyond the topics and tasks by having choice in their seating options. This will further enhance intrinsic motivation, engagement, and academic performance. In my classroom, I currently have the equipment and materials to offer some flexible seating options including standing at a tall desk or a high table, sitting at a desk by itself, next to one peer, or in a pod of four, sitting on an ottoman at a round table, and kneeling or sitting on pillows at a low table. Through providing additional flexible seating options such as wobble cushions, wobble chairs, stretchy bands, portable writing tables, balance ball chairs, and spot markers, students will be able to choose a comfortable work space that matches individual needs as a learner. These flexible seating options will enhance student learning. Through your donation, the flexible seating materials will help the students in my classroom focus through the stimulation of touch. Learners will also be able to effectively collaborate with peers to build a strong classroom community. Moreover, students will have stronger intrinsic motivation and gain more independence in the classroom, enhancing student achievement.
