My students need these different and unique seating options in my classroom for many reasons. One big reason I believe in this is because as adults many of us do not like to sit in an uncomfortable chair and desk all day long. Students have to get comfortable before our mind can be open to learning. Once a student become comfortable the classroom begins to feel more like a home. A student has to feel like they are welcomed in order to put forth their best effort. Along with becoming comfortable these different seating options, such as pillows, balance balls, wobble cushions, and a classroom carpet, will cut down significantly on the amount of time that the students spend sitting down in a regular chair. There have been numerous different studies that show sitting for a prolonged time does awful things to our health.
