My students are part of a life skills classroom at the elementary level. The goal is to get them involved in as many school activities as possible with their general education peers. However, because of many of their sensory needs, joining large groups of their friends can be rough on my kiddos. Noise cancelling headphones make attending general education classes such as PE, Lunch, and Music more fun for my sensory students. The purpose of the noise cancelling headphones is to dull the sounds of the school bell, gym whistle, and other loud noises while still letting my student play and enjoy time with their peers. Without the headphones my students often become overwhelmed asking to leave their friends, lie down, go home. Students who can not verbally express their desire to leave the over stimulating situation can occasionally become frustrated, aggressive, cry, or even run from the room. The noise cancelling headphones allow my students to interact with the rest of the school and have more fun doing it.
