Our school and our students face many challenges everyday. California is in a budget crisis, and there are absolutely no funds available for even the basic school supplies necessary to run a classroom. Our school is situated in a low socio-economic neighborhood, and therefore our parents are not capable of supplying their children with much more than the basics for school. However, my students come to school each day with a passion for learning and an expectation that they will be competitive in high school and in their options for college and careers. They do not understand, nor should they have to, that the one thing separating them from students in schools just a few miles away is simply money. They have the intelligence, the creativity, and the drive... and they deserve the same education and opportunities as those who live in communities with more financial resources.
