As a Special Education Resource Teacher, I work within the general education classroom to support the learning of all the students, while offering extra support for those with special education needs. Although my main focus is on students with Specific Learning Disabilities, high functioning Autism, and students with Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder, I have noticed that many students, not just those with special education needs, easily become overwhelmed and give up, when asked to write an essay. But, when I sit down and act as that student's secretary and write what they dictate, they become motivated and express wonderful ideas.
