My students have numerous disabilities such as Autism and cognitive delays. These students want to communicate, but often lack the ability to speak the words. Augment communication allows my students to use pictures, visual boards, sign language, and gestures to communicate their wants and needs. Students will work one-on-one with a teacher using an Ipad to help facilitate communication during social play as we expand our verb vocabulary. We will be able to see people participating in activities and see places that might not be accessible in our classroom. Students can also use IPADs to help deregulate by using visual boards to show how they are feeling or express a need when they are unable to verbalize. There are many apps available specifically geared for children who have delays. Please help ease our students' level of frustration by providing the tools they need to communicate.
