Most of my students come to me defeated. They are 3rd 4th and 5th graders who can not read. Some need phonics support other are learning how to comprehend text. Most will not volunteer answers and are terrified they may be called on. Once my intensive reading program begins, each student slowly gains hope. They become successful readers! The best testimonial comes from my own students. For example, one day a boy said this to me: "Mrs. Hammond, I used to think reading was boring. But, I see how much progress I am making and I really love it now." That is why I love being a reading intervention teacher!
