Authentic learning occurs when students put their hands on the work and make it their own. This type of hands-on learning is naturally found in a school science lab. Similarly in a math class, students can arrange manipulatives to create a physical model that provides greater clarity. These hands-on methods are grounded in science and what we know from research about how people learn. Authentic experiences provide a foundation for students to become lifetime learners. Students learn skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, and collaboration that are necessary for their future success in college and careers.
