My reading students are taking part in a 40 Book Challenge during this school year, covering a range of genres. Having 25 students taking part in the challenge means there is a need for many different book choices to meet the many different interests of each student. Our school has a wonderful library for students to access but having a well developed classroom library is also important to supporting student reading. Having a large selection of classroom books for students to choose from will help engage every type of reader and further their success in the challenge. The books I have selected come from recommendations that students have asked to have added to our classroom library, such as The Darkest Minds book series. Other books that I have selected come from "2018 Best Middle Grade Books" lists found on different book review blogs. Giving students access to some of the most talked about books of the year helps to get them excited about reading. Through building our classroom library, students are given more choice in their learning. When given more choice, students are more likely to be engaged in their learning.
