I teach a group of fifth graders who really struggle in the area of mathematics. With the Cricut machine, I can provide numerous objects they can use to manipulate and enhance their understanding of math concepts, from basic multiplication and division to understanding relationships with fractions and decimals. In science, my students learn about geological changes across Earth's surface, specifically through the understanding of the theory of plate tectonics. The Cricut machine would allow me the opportunity to make a variety of objects that could help students see the different ways tectonic plates move and to help them visualize how our planet's geographical features are transformed through this movement. They can also use the machine to help enhance final science/history projects. I would also like to give my students the opportunity to explore graphic design, where they use the Cricut machine to make designs on iron-on transfers to be used on end of the school year T-shirts.
This project benefits students in a variety of ways, from math, to science, and even in the arts by way of graphic design.
Students who struggle with math will have another tool to help them learn and explore math, giving them a deeper understanding in areas that they have a deficit. It will also help students to see scientific relationships in the environment they live in. Students will also have a creative outlet for final projects and designs they played a role in creating.
