The leveled phonics activities will provide differentiated materials for multiple guided centers to teach phonemic awareness in an alternative manner than standard curriculum. The comprehension and written language products will allow my students to become more fluent readers who can then understand the content they are reading and provide a format to organize and express their thoughts through written language. The resources will be used with direct instruction first in hopes of being able to scaffold the students into being able to work more independently.
My students need this repeated practice with various strategies as they struggle to learn in more traditional ways. In a world with increasing emphasis on STEM, my students need to master basic math skills in order to achieve higher math analysis thinking in later grades. The math materials will first be used through direct instruction methods and then transferred to student-led centers for additional practice.
Lastly, many of my students live with the effects of ADHD. Allowing them movement on ball chairs frees their minds to focus on learning and attend to activities long enough to gain new knowledge.
