Having to sit in a traditional classroom at a traditional table with an uncomfortable chair is not ideal for all students. As an adult, I often find myself sitting on stools or in the comfortable, cushioned chair at my desk. My AVID students deserve the same type of flexible seating options as well. While there are times during class that require students to sit in a specific seat, there are also times when students should be given the choice of where to sit that will help them most effectively engage in the learning process. I have students that are up and moving for a majority of class time. I have come to learn that it is advantageous for students to be given the flexibility of where to sit during class time. I want to give my energetic, high-spirited middle school students more alternative seating options!
