Our class is one of mixed culture. Haitian, Indian,Puerto Rican, Caucasian, and African American all learning how to get along with each other and are really making a conscious effort to do so. They have made remarkable progress. Our school is in a rural area with a lot of woods no library close by. Some of the children really enjoy taking books home for their parents to read to them and bringing them back for stickers. It would be beneficial if they had books to keep at home and a place to keep them like a book bag, their own little portable library. The ratio of boys to girls is 5 to12. A few of girls and fewer of the boys actively participate in the read alongs. It has been said that Charity begins at home and then spreads abroad. If a love books and reading is fostered at home that love would find its way to the classroom causing self confidence to rise and behavior problems to plumit. Home & school =partners.
