Literature circles are a great way to allow students to be in charge of their learning while encouraging them to practice a wide variety of comprehension skills. They are able to conduct discussion groups that they're in charge of. Literature Circles are also a great way to help improve communication skills and bring out leadership skills in all students.
Students are placed into reading groups, according to books they've chosen that interest them. This ability to choose already gets them engaged in the activity. After reading a chapter, students meet in their groups where they have different roles to play within the Literature Circle. Each member having a role keeps them accountable and gives them something to contribute to the discussion.
Literature Circles are more successful if the students have lots of choices in the books that they can choose. I am asking for several sets of books to use with Literature Circles.
