Our school district recognized a need and opened a new high school on the International Baccalaureate model and offered it to any student who demonstrated the desire to be successful. The result was our High School in Indianapolis. Our students have demonstrated that they are serious about their education, so we got serious about them. We now have 200 "scholars" who are taking challenging classes and are working towards a high school diploma that will give them the greatest chance of success in college and in life. Most of our scholars are on the federal lunch program and come from single parent homes without a college graduate (or in many cases a high school graduate). However, they are well-mannered leaders who do not allow anything to get in the way of their education.
