HELLO! My name is Joey and I am a 5th grade teacher at Hillcrest Elementary School! I am now in my 2nd year of teaching, and while it is filled with obstacles and long days, I could not be more certain about the work I am pursuing. My 22 students are amazing, and each day I am reminded of why teaching is so valuable and important. All of them come from disadvantaged backgrounds immigrant families and working-class households yet they still come each day wanting to get smarter, and get ready for middle school. Their resilience and perseverance is unending. I am continually in awe of their humor and optimism, even when met with obstacle after obstacle. They deserve more than what they are getting but still they smile and embrace what they have. Thank you in advance for all the support you can provide (even if that's simply words of encouragement:)). Best, J.
