I realized that my students (boys and girls) learn more with hands on activities. They are intrigued with problem solving and higher order thinking that requires the use of manipulatives. They are highly motivated when they use manipulatives because they lack the materials at home to ensure success. Although my students come from a poor socio-economic background, they continue to strive for success.
