My small group pullouts for Title I students provide individualized instruction that struggling students don't get in the whole group classroom setting. However, I do not have computers to allow for each student to use classroom technology. The purchase of this small group of Chromebooks will allow each student to have hands on access to learning apps like Prodigy and Education Galaxy, as well as to productivity apps that they will need for real world connections to curriculum. Students will be using apps such as Google Sheets to learn how to manipulate math data in spreadsheets. In addition, every student will now have an opportunity to utilize twenty-first century skills as they learn to communicate and collaborate with each other in math and science based projects.
My emphasis is on real-world connections to the math skills these students will need for the rest of their lives. Using Chromebooks will allow for students to search the Internet for information about the costs of groceries as they work on a financial literacy project to create a balanced budget. They will also allow us to utilize Google Classroom to connect math projects between our pull-out class and the homeroom classroom. Students will be able to work on collaborative projects using shared documents, and will learn valuable technology skills at the same time.
