My students are currently sitting at individual desks that are pushed together to make tables. A child's fingers get smashed daily because six year olds are wiggly and the desks never stay in the shape of a rectangular table. The desks are thirteen years old. Needless to say they are in rough shape. The Laminate is chipped off the top of several of the desks. Even though the legs of the desks are adjustable they wobble and are not level. I know my students would be able to focus more on their assignments if it weren't for the distractions of the desks. The things kept inside of desks are also drawing the students attention away from their work. Let's not forget that tables would be like sharing one big desk. We all know that sharing is a huge life lesson almost all six year olds need. What better way to practice sharing and getting along with others than to be sitting together at tables. We do a lot of hands on games and cooperative learning. Tables would be a huge asset to our classroom!
