One of the main things that helps all students become life long readers is having reading materials that are engaging and that the kids want to pick up and read. Yes I want to have students read certain passages and text that is part of the curriculum but more than that I want students to have a variety of material to choose from. One of the things that I want to implement, as I saw my Co-Operating teacher implement, was having students pick their own reading material and I saw how almost all students were able to find books, graphic novels, poems, or articles that the students were eager to learn about so they WANTED to read. Students were excited to pick new books. I want to create a classroom library that students are excited about.
