My students come from a variety of backgrounds ethnically, however, they all share a common bond- poverty. My students come to me unsure of their future. Many can't even answer when I ask them the timeless question, "what do you want to be when you grow up?" My goal is to introduce my students to the world of programming and robotics in order to spark an interest in the world of STEM. It is estimated that by 2020, there will be 1.4 million computing jobs in the United States and only an estimated 400,000 graduates to fill them. (Source: National Science Foundation) I feel this is the perfect avenue for my underprivileged students. I believe in them. They just need to be set on the best path to ensure they have a bright, successful future.
