Writing is a challenge for any Kindergarten student, but for English Learners it's even more difficult. Many of my students are entering school and being immersed in English for the first time, so they must work twice as hard to gain the same set of skills.
The supplies in this project will help my students gain a strong understanding of the alphabet and then transfer these skills to writing. I'm requesting rainbow sentence strips, Elmer's glue sticks, clipboards, Learn the Alphabet! Dough Mats, crayons, and a classroom timer.
First, we will use the Alphabet Sounds Teaching Tubs to learn alphabet sounds and practice writing our letters. Then, we will begin to isolate the sounds we hear in short words like "cat" or "bag" and practice writing and reading those sounds. As the year progresses, we will move from drawing and labeling pictures to writing entire paragraphs!
