In our classroom library we have many books with 90% of them being books that are above my students' levels. The books are great for a book read to the class for discussion but not for them to be able to read themselves. I am a first year teacher, and resources are limited when trying to fund everything the classroom needs. My students need to have books that are on their level (which is kindergarten) to get them to read on the 1st grade level. If they are only given first grade books that are above their level the kids will become frustrated and hate reading. This is not my goal! I want to develop a love for reading within these kids. I believe they can get to where they need to be but I need additional resources to facilitate their learning. I am asking for different types of readers such as comic, science and a variety box so they students will also have control over what they are reading and also help form that love of reading.
