Our district has just transitioned this week to hybrid instruction. Two days a week, I have a handful of students in class with me, while the majority of students are at home logged in via Zoom. Prior to this, we were 100% remote since March 2020. Currently, I must be at the desktop computer to write on the SmartBoard for the students at home and in person to see. With an iPad, I can share my screen wirelessly from anywhere in the room. When I use the Apple Pencil to write on the screen, all of my students will be able to see it. The Apple Pencil will allow me to write on my screen almost as if I were writing on a piece of paper. Math has been very challenging to teach virtually. Most of my students have a disability and they need to see several examples in order to understand a concept. The iPad will make modeling math much more efficient than using a computer mouse as well as being stuck at a stationary desktop. The iPad can also act as a document camera which is especially helpful for demonstrating constructions in geometry. For the two days a week that we are virtual, I can still use the iPad to display my screen and demonstrate the work. Once we are fully back in the classroom, I will be able to continue to utilize the iPad to better my instruction and my students' egagement.
