My 3rd graders not only learn how to read, but read to learn. Being able to navigate and comprehend informational text is a vital skill and something we work on all year long. Scholastic News is an amazing resource with articles on current events that are written specifically for 3rd graders. It not only keeps students aware of what is happening in the world, but it also provides amazing content to help teach kids how to make sense of informational text. Concepts like text features, main idea, text-based questions, supporting your answers with evidence are all skills I teach using these valuable magazines.
