As a first year teacher, I am building my classroom from the ground up! Currently, my students have been sharing the same tin of 20 colored pencils amongst each other. The markers I purchased at the beginning of the year are officially dried up. They have not complained but I can see their desire to use more colors in their work. As 12-14 year olds, we have been working on many projects in the classroom with hopes to promote social skills, collaboration, and goos sportsmanship. After being away from school for a while, many students are struggling with making new friends and staying motivated in school. Instead of lecturing and forcing students to take traditional and extensive notes and exams, I have opted for creative projects as a form of assessments. Not only are students more motivated to participate but, they also find it easier to organize their thoughts using a color-coding system. Color coding is a skill I hope my students take with them to high school, college, and beyond! Thank you for supporting my students' love for learning.
