Louisiana has the fourth highest obesity rate for youth. I do NOT want my students to contribute to this statistic, so we are getting up and active. In order to get up and active in class, we are in need of materials to encourage students to participate. With this being the first year our school has been open, we are lacking materials to engage all students at the same time. My classes consist of 75 students or more. Other than the typical Physical Education equipment we think of such as footballs, basketballs, soccer balls or tennis balls, Omnikin balls are large ultra-light balls used to teach many skills. They are ideal for enhancing coordination and promoting cooperation and teamwork. The ball can be used to teach non-traditional games, such as Indiana Jones, 4-Corner, and Crab Soccer, to get students thinking creatively and engaging in physical activity. I know that the Omnikin ball, along with cones and scoreboards, would motivate my students to get up and active.
