I teach a wonderful group of students with Intellectual Disabilities. They love to learn and explore. Science is their favorite subject. We have very few resources but everyday science is all around us- waiting to be explored! My students attend an urban middle school but their developmental level is around pre-k through first grade. Some of my students struggle with environmental interactions, but are learning more about how to appropriately interact everyday! They enjoy learning, they want to be inspired, and I want to provide opportunities for both. Life can be a struggle for my students and their families. They are often unable to fully participate in typical school learning because of their cognitive impairments. However, project based learning, real life examples and modeling, and the fascinating world of scientific exploration and discovery is opening up new learning experiences for them. They love to do hands on work, they love to see the cause and effect of science.
