My 4th grade reading and social studies students attend a Title 1 rural elementary school in South Carolina. Many are on free or reduced lunch and can barely afford pencil and paper, much less extras like crayons, colored pencils, markers, and scissors. My students enjoy being creative and having an artistic outlet of expression, so incorporating the arts in my classroom is a natural fit. We also incorporate technology into our instruction when it is available. I love making history come alive for my students by using role-play and reader's theater. My students love reading group time and look forward to our many reading response activities.
