All education research supports flexible seating. The old style structured seating prevents students from reaching their full potential. When students can move or sit comfortably on the floor, they can improve focus and concentration. The average school day lasts 7 1/2 hours. It is not developmentally appropriate for young children to sit still for that long. They need to move. Movement & motion can be incorporated into learning. Flexible seating helps achieve this. Flexible/motion seating especially benefits students with attention deficit disorder. If they are given the chance to move, they have a chance to improve their achievement by staying energized and focused on learning.
