Transitioning from elementary school to junior high is exciting but at the same time tough for many students. The excitement of going to different classes and gaining some responsibility is tempered by thoughts of, “When is recess?” or “I need help!” The extra responsiblity can be even harder for a student with dyslexia and ADHD. As many as 1 in 4 students with ADHD also have dyslexia. Traditional desks with attached chairs are hard for many of my students to sit and listen and participate in a lesson. Fortunately this year I was able to change my desks to tables, which helped immensely but many of my students struggle with sitting in a chair. A choice of a traditional chair or wobble stool would be extremely beneficial to a least 40% of my students. Help my most wiggly students with a choice of seats.
