I have a 6th grade homeroom, but I teach 6th grade math, 7th grade math, and 8th grade Algebra every day. My students come from a variety of backgrounds and home environments, but come to school each day excited to learn. In my math classes, each of my students has varying needs, abilities, strengths, and learning styles, but together we work to create a diverse and effective learning community. Despite having a diverse makeup of students in my classroom, I have found that the most effective strategies to help enhance their learning include providing visual/auditory supports, hands-on materials, appropriate leveled materials and contextual opportunities for appropriate socialization.
