My students are amazing but come from an area where they are not afforded the same luxuries that I had as a high school student. I work at a Title 1 school in the Los Angeles area which serves about 2200 9th-12th graders. The energy here is great and there are a lot of great things happening. We have a lot of great sports programs, a burgeoning academy program, a lot of clubs and for the most part a very active and engaged student body. There are large populations who have to deal with issues at home and so there are times when issues arise in class from this. Providing a more interactive opportunity like this has definitely proven in the past to bring students' focus back to school.
