While student teaching, I got to experience first hand how these hands on Lego Story Starter Kits got students to pick up their pencil, and begin creatively writing without much coaching. At the moment, 5th grade is full of non-fiction reading and writing. We are constantly teaching for a test, and pushing our kids to write about things they are not interested in. My entire classroom is decorated in Lego's. I have used my own money to create as many Lego Stations I could for reading, math, and ELA. I'm running low on funds, but there is so much more that can be done with Lego's. Writing For Fun, Gets The Job Done, and our students need to be able to write more fiction pieces. An alternate reality is an escape, and entirely more fun than the truth. Building and writing keeps them engaged, and amazing piece will come out of this hands on experience.
