My students are mostly 9th-graders, some repeaters, who have been identified as at-risk students with low motivation to succeed. Many of them have never had a calculator in their home; yet I find that these young people are not limited when they have tools to help them succeed! Gaining confidence as they go, most of my students are able to successfully complete their coursework and pass the Alabama High School Graduation Exam. These students, mostly minority, often go on to become the first high school graduates in their family! Giving them the tools to succeed is one of the keys to this success!
