My students with learning disabilities (LD) have the ability to process information however they do so with great inefficiency. That problem manifests itself in my students' difficulty with reading comprehension and fluency that is not limited to a simple problem with word recognition. Since reading comprehension is crucial to school success, it is essential to understand the difficulties children with LD face as they encounter new text. Put very simply, they become very frustrated with the attempt to master the new material without appropriate specialized resources and materials. With federal and state cuts to educational budgets, teachers are not able to order the supplies and instructional materials needed to help promote the students' success. Parental support is also nonexistent. In fact, a majority of my students come from backgrounds which include high unemployment, lack of parental support, low household income and various negative societal problems
