During Teacher Welcome Week, Staff will be introduced to these activities, and actually do the team building exercise. Then, during the first days of school, classroom teachers will use the materials to form relationships and community among their students. When students are able to build a sense of community, the classroom environment fosters active learning. There is a direct correlation between student trust and relationships and strong academic performance.
By incorporating team building activities from the very start of the school year, students will be able to form a positive learning environment that lasts throughout the year. Additionally, students will benefit from the direct teacher engagement during these activities because of the personal relationship building that lays the groundwork for academic success.
These activities will fit into our philosophy of building a strong classroom community and how to make positive and circumstantial decisions with others.
We emphasize the importance of looking at problems through multiple perspectives and not judging other based on their differences. We consider reflection as part of the learning process and our student's community building circles as an important part of the school day.
We are excited at the possibilities!
