Our last water table broke in the middle of last school year and my students have been bummed since that activity had to be canceled for the rest of the year. One of my students was affected by this a lot and we ended up using a small dish bin to recreate the water table. Students have practiced their motor skills by pouring water from one container to a smaller container, used it to make predictions on whether things would float or sink, and just loved to splash around in the food-colored water. With the added academic toys, students can practice identifying the letters in the alphabet and practicing counting and identifying numbers. Lastly, the STEM activities will get students inquiring about things and finding out if things sink or float.
