My students are English Learners at a school where 97% of the population receives free or reduced lunch. Our school is a Title I Blue Ribbon School, meaning our teachers and students have worked very hard to show significant growth on state standardized tests. Beginning next year, they will face a new challenge: constructed response assessments under the new common core state standards, which are based on authentic, complex, grade level texts.
