This project will allow for more art prints mainly in the form of calendars to expand my collection of art to use while teaching content with an arts integration lesson. Creating is a part of arts integration and receiving some essential supplies would allow our students to create content-based pieces as well. I have numerous years of training in arts integration from the teaching artist connected to the Kennedy Center and understand how to design a lesson with this approach to teaching so both arts and subject area are equally aligned while students experience an engaging, cooperative learning, experiential, evolving, collaborative, problem-solving, and reflective lesson. For example, students can identify and describe geometric shapes and attributes in the art and reflect on why this artist chose these certain figures to portray the meaning of the art. Students can also identify the depth and complexity icons in artwork such as details, big idea, and multiple perspectives which is designed to help students go beyond surface level understanding and enhance their ability to think critically. Students enjoy using the icons while investigating content through art. Students can also use a painting to create a math word problem using it as the topic. The calendar prints can also be shared with my team to use during reading, writing, and science lessons Arts while students construct and demonstrate understanding through visual arts. Teaching with arts integration is an innovative and creative approach to learning since students meet dual learning objectives when they engage in the creative process to explore connections between an art form and content subject area to gain greater understanding in both. The heart of arts integration is engagement in the creative process.
