I teach at a title 1 school. This is a school that the majority of the students get free or reduced lunch. There are 15 students in my class this year. Three of these students go out for extra help because they are behind their regular education peers. These students and their 12 peers are like the students in wealthier neighborhoods in that they come to school excited about their next adventure, the world of education. The kindergarten year is the year that students go from knowing some letter and numbers to emergent readers. Their bodies are on fire to learn everything.
