My students, spanning from 1st to 6th grade, are refugees and immigrants coming to the U.S. from all over the globe. In our classroom, students are learning English as a second language. They come to school excited for the opportunity and promise of a public education in the U.S. and their energy and dedication is an inspiration. While their life experiences have sometimes been very difficult, tumultuous, and often challenging for one to imagine, my students often demonstrate tremendous resilience and a capacity for a successful future! In our classroom, students are encouraged to explore and participate in the world around them as they become local and global citizens. Their diverse backgrounds enlighten those around them and help us foster a respect for others that is unique.
