If we are going to ask our students to read, then we need to create environments that students want to be in. Flexible seating allows students the opportunity to find the seat that offers them the best chance for success. I changed my classroom seating this year through family donations and garage-sale finds. Previous students have returned and noticed the changes in my classroom. Without fail, they have all said that they prefer my new classroom and wish their current teachers would offer them some of the same choices. Since my new students love the current setting, I can only imagine how much more they will enjoy it with the appropriate flexible seats.
