The resources included in this project will support our 3rd Grade Science curriculum. There are four units of study: Weather, Forces, Ecosystems and Fossils, as well as Life Cycles and Traits. With STEAM activities, my students will go beyond the limitations of learning Science vocabulary and basic facts. Instead, they will participate in engaging activities that will make their learning experiences more realistic and concrete. My students are curious about Science and become creative problem solvers when they do STEAM activities. STEAM is all about team work! The book, Decibella, introduces students how to work with their team and be able to communicate. When we study Forces, the students make discoveries about Motion and Momentum by using Newton's Cradle. They will also learn about magnetism by conducting investigations with magnets and iron filings, so they can design real world uses of magnets. The book entitled "The Meteorologist in Me" will introduce students to elements of weather. They need thermometers and rain gauges to conduct scientific investigations about weather and apply what they learn to build structures that can withstand severe weather. To learn more about Ecosystems and Fossils, the Animal Habitat book will give students information to understand different habitats and ecosystems around the world. The dinosaur skeleton toy figures will be used to simulate an archaeological dig and provide students with clues about which habitats supported dinosaur life. The use of dry erase clipboards will allow my students to gather research notes, brainstorm creative solutions for problems, and have flexibility to work anywhere-indoors or outdoors. When testing inventions, the safety glasses will protect their eyes.
