Greetings!! I teach 5th-7th grade Science, Math, and Social Studies at a small, community-based school in Detroit. We implement Place-Based Education, which is where the teaching and learning of core academics and the arts are grounded in components of "place," including the environment, history, community members, resources, and challenges of our neighborhood, city, state, nation, and world. From a very young age, our students are charged with taking on leadership roles and seeking creative approaches to real-world problems. We are attempting to challenge the narrative that a child must leave Detroit to be successful. Instead, we believe we are educating the future leaders of Detroit. As an intentionally small school, our budget is very lean. Please consider helping us to obtain the materials to enrich our students' learning. Thank you!!
