The "Maker Movement" is taking the world by storm. You can now find makerspaces around communities in public libraries, civic centers, churches, malls, and even schools. Our Middle and High School has a new makerspace in the Library. It is intended to be a safe, welcoming space for students to create, tinker, explore and learn, free from the constraints of the classroom. The materials and equipment are available to all students and teachers to use with full classes, small groups, and individually after school or with a club. Creating and tinkering helps build problem solving skills, resiliency, and leads to a collaborative and creative environment. These skills, which may be learned and practiced within the makerspace, can also be applied to the classroom. Much of the technology (Raspberry Pi, Arduino, LittleBits, RedBoards, Bare Conductive, etc) was purchased for the makerspace through a generous grant. I purchased most of the items in the space including Lego bricks, PlayDoh, cutting mats, and consumables (duct tape, batteries, art supplies, etc.) of my own pocket. Now, I want expand the makerspace to meet the needs of more students, teachers, and the curriculum. I am requesting supplies and resources including a Rolling Tool Cabinet, a Cricut Explore Air 2 Machine, a Button Badge Maker Machine, Yarn for Crocheting, a Knitting Needles Set, 100 Pack of Lithium Batteries, Alkaline Batteries, and two packs of Mini Motors. Materials will be used to organize the materials in the makerspace.
