We are requesting crayons, markers, drawing paper and brain models. The only source my students have now for what a brain looks like is their text book. My kinesthetic learners need to have models so they can manipulate them in order to better understand the parts of the brain, what those parts do, and how they're connected to the other parts of the brain. Being able to have brain models will make this complicated subject matter easier to understand. The art supplies will be used to enable students to create their own brain diagrams and to color code the various regions and make pictures of WHAT those various regions do. For example, the cerebellum is responsible for balance and muscle coordination. Students in the past have drawn an illustration of a gymnast on a balance beam. This picture illustrates that the student understands where the cerebellum is and what it does.
